Many historians consider Robert E. Lee the greatest general of the Civil War.
His military genius, although hampered by lack of men and material, was a
principal factor in keeping the Confederacy alive. Lee was idolized by his
soldiers and the people of the South, eventually winning the reluctant
respect of the North as well. In this striking portrait, artist Daniel Dos Santos brings to life one of the most significant figures of the Civil War. This image is not directly related to any battle, but rather a study in the individual, and the complexity which made him the quintessentail hero of the South. |
