Family Ties
[Family Ties]
Family is not a concept exclusive to human-beings. Elephant society is extraordinarily close-knit as well. A calf will stay with its mother until near maturity and will actively assist in the upbringing of other offspring within the herd. This scene is set in Kenya's Samburu Game Reserve, where a small calf, not yet a year old, snuggles up to its aunt while the calf's mother looks on with a benevolent eye. One of the better groups of humans working to help young orphaned elephants can use your assistance; Simon has lended them his support for years, and you can check them out at www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org
